IHG Hotels & Resorts brings first Hotel Indigo to Sweden

IHG Hotels & Resorts has announced the signing of Hotel Indigo Stockholm – Kvarnholmen in Sweden, marking the first Hotel Indigo in the country. The property will be developed by Kvarnholmen Utveckling, a joint venture between Peab and JM, and leased and operated by 1912 Hotels under a franchise agreement with IHG.

The hotel will be located in Kvarnholmen, a waterfront neighborhood in Nacka on Stockholm’s eastern shore. The area offers access to the Stockholm archipelago, the city center and a culinary and cultural scene.

Scheduled to open in 2029, the hotel will offer 232 guest rooms and include a restaurant and bar, wellness and recreational facilities, meeting spaces of 150 square meters and social areas. The property will also feature a rooftop pool and terrace, spa and gym facilities and an internal atrium with green space.

“We are delighted to bring Hotel Indigo to Stockholm, a city that perfectly embodies the brand’s ethos of celebrating neighborhood culture through design-led hospitality,” said Willemijn Geels, vice president of Development, Europe, of IHG Hotels & Resorts. “Sweden is a market with strong and growing appeal for international and domestic travellers alike, and this signing reflects our commitment to expanding our portfolio across the Nordics. We’re thrilled to deepen our relationship with 1912 Hotels, welcome Peab and JM as new partners, and soon introduce guests to the unique story of Kvarnholmen.”

“We are proud to partner with a global hospitality group like IHG Hotels & Resorts on this landmark project and 1912 Hotels as its lease operator,” said Johan Gyllberg, regional manager of Peab Bostad and representative on the board of KUAB. “Kvarnholmen is undergoing a remarkable transformation, and Hotel Indigo is the ideal brand to bring a distinctive, design-forward hospitality experience to the neighborhood. We look forward to welcoming guests to a property that truly reflects the character and ambition of this exciting new district.”

The signing builds on IHG’s strategy to grow its presence in the Nordics, with 13 open and pipeline properties, including voco Stockholm – Kista and Ruby Frida in Stockholm.

Hotel Indigo has exceeded 325 open and pipeline hotels globally across almost 50 countries.
