Wyndham to launch Tryp brand in North America

NEW YORK CITY Wyndham Hotel Group has signed an agreement to open its first Tryp by Wyndham property in North America, the 173-key Tryp New York City-Times Square South.

The hotel, expected to be completed by the second quarter of 2011, is under construction in the heart of Manhattan on 35th Street between Eighth and Ninth avenues. Owned by Eros Management Realty LLC and developed by Flintlock Construction Services LLC, the hotel will be managed by Wyndham Hotels Management Inc.

“We are thrilled to debut our exciting new brand in North America and look forward to introducing the Tryp by Wyndham brand to business and leisure travelers from around the world,” says Jeff Wagoner, president of Wyndham Hotels and Resorts. “The opening of the Tryp New York City-Times Square South will signify an integral milestone in our plans to expand the brand into key markets throughout the U.S. and internationally.”

Wyndham acquired the Tryp hotel brand from Sol Meliá Hotels & Resorts in June. The select-service brand caters to business and leisure travellers, with properties in Madrid, Barcelona, Paris, Lisbon, Frankfurt, Buenos Aires, São Paulo and Montevideo, Uruguay, among others. Tryp by Wyndham represents more than 90 hotels and approximately 13,000 guestrooms across Europe and the Americas.

The New York City property will feature Tryp’s signature guestrooms along with family rooms that include bunk beds for children. Designer Glen Coben of Manhattan-based architecture and interior design firm Glen&Company has infused Mediterranean elements and New York City style into the design plans of the hotel’s guestrooms and social spaces. Guests will be treated to an open, social environment as they enter the hotel lobby. The property will also feature a fitness center, a business center and function space for up to 100 meeting attendees.

The Tryp by Wyndham brand anticipates property openings in Berlin, Medellín and Madrid by the end of this year.

As part of a previously announced strategic alliance, Wyndham Hotel Group and Sol Meliá will work together to develop the Tryp by Wyndham brand globally and market the brand through their central reservations systems and loyalty programs.
