Wyndham in deal for 75 new-build Microtel Inns in Canada

CANADA More than 75 new-build Microtel Inns & Suites are expected to open in Canada over the next 25 years as part of a master development agreement between Wyndham Hotel Group and MasterBuilt Hotels Ltd.

MasterBuilt is a joint venture between JWI Investments LP, parent company of Canada home-builder Jayman MasterBuilt, and Superior Lodging Corp., master developer of Wyndham’s Super 8 brand in Canada. MasterBuilt is led by Jay Westman and Marc Staniloff, who also own three Wingate by Wyndham hotels in Canada.

“Marc’s leadership has proven to be an outstanding asset in helping grow the Super 8 brand in Canada, and we have no doubt that he will help do the same with our award-winning Microtel brand,” says Wyndham Hotel Group President and CEO Eric Danziger. “His knowledge of the market and passion for the industry are unparalleled. With his dedication and determination, Microtel will become a household name among travelers in Canada.”

Staniloff, along with Superior Lodging Corp., in 1992 signed a master development agreement for Super 8 in Canada. Through his 19-year tenure, Staniloff has grown the brand’s portfolio to about 130 Super 8 hotels in Canada, including in every province.

“The Canadian market continues to show great potential and is on the upswing, making now the right time to bring the Microtel brand to the country in a big way,” Staniloff says. “We couldn’t be more pleased to be working with Wyndham Hotel Group again to make that happen.”

Currently, there are two Microtel hotels open in Canada—one in Parry Sound, Ontario, and another in Woodstock, Ontario. The brand also has previously signed agreements for an additional 10 hotels in the country.
