What’s Hot: New York boutique debuts bar

Bar and restaurant design is a tricky part of any hospitality project. Not only do hotel spaces have to be eye-catching for guests, they also must accommodate the increasingly varied and sophisticated ways guests use dining venues. That’s especially true for less formal areas such as lobby bars. High-impact design has to be balanced between inviting guests to sit down and curl up with a drink or join friends for a night out.

Making that happen at the Sixty SoHo’s The Gordon Bar started with putting the drama on the walls. The vivid artwork includes a cheeky X and O piece that makes a bold statement.

Designer Tara Bernerd utilized seating pieces to generate a more relaxed atmosphere. Leather booths sit alongside checkered chairs while metal frames add a harder edge. In addition to the indoor seating, the 97-key property also offers a guest-only rooftop terrace.

A mix of seating adds an informal vibe.

The restaurant was developed in collaboration with restaurateur John McDonald.  McDonald will be opening Sessanta in the hotel in March.
