What’s Hot: Hôtel Plaza Athénée celebrates its centennial

The Dorchester Collection’s Hôtel Plaza Athénée in Paris is celebrating its centennial this year.

The property, which first opened on April 20, 1913, is partnering with the Théâtre des Champs-Elysées and Baccarat for the occasion.

The Théâtre des Champs-Elysées is also celebrating its centennial. Hotel guests will be able to attend sold-out preformances with interpretations of Igor Stravinsky’s “The Rite of Spring,” which made its world premiere in the theater in 1913.

Bar manager Thierry Hernandez has created a new signature cocktail that will be available all year in Le Bar du Plaza Athénée. The Cocktail Harcourt Baccarat combines blackberries, wild strawberries, cranberries, Cognac, passion fruit, and Champagne iin a Baccarat Harcout crystal glass.

In a nod to German Emil Armbruster, who originally founded the Plaza Athénée, the hotel will also host a series of Bavarian dinners. Other centennial events include the creation and burial of a time capsule and the planting of 100 trees on the grounds of Versailles this spring.
