Waldorf Astoria Kuala Lumpur opens

Hilton has opened the 268-room, all-suite Waldorf Astoria Kuala Lumpur in the city’s Golden Triangle district.

The property is the brand’s first in Malaysia.

Design firm Deboss Collective used natural stone, warm timber, woven textiles and handcrafted finishes in the suites. The joinery draws on traditional Malay marquetry. The suites are designed for longer stays and multigenerational journeys. Each suite has a yoga mat and a Digital Detox Card.

“Waldorf Astoria has long represented the pinnacle of luxury, with a heritage of setting the standard for exceptional hospitality around the world,” said Alan Watts, president of Asia Pacific, Hilton. “From Park Avenue in New York to The Bund in Shanghai, the brand is synonymous with legendary addresses that become places to see and be seen. Waldorf Astoria Kuala Lumpur carries that legacy forward in the heart of the Golden Triangle, with an all-suite experience that brings a distinctive residential character to one of Asia’s most dynamic cities.”

Each Waldorf Astoria has a clock, tied to the invitation “Meet Me at the Clock.” The Kuala Lumpur clock is made of bronze and glass and takes its geometry from historic Islamic astrolabes in the Islamic Arts Museum Malaysia collection. It stands at the entrance of Peacock Alley. The museum also collaborated on the hotel’s art collection, which includes a 19th-century painting of Qajar princes in the Grand Lobby.

Chefs Garima Arora and Jean-Georges Vongerichten are behind the dining concepts. The Istana serves breakfast, and Yaari serves Indian cuisine shaped by Arora. Vongerichten’s concepts are JG KL, abc kitchens KL and The Bar by JG.

Waldorf Astoria spa covers 2,275 square metres across two floors. It offers La Prairie treatments and a masters in residence program with experts in osteopathy, fitness, nutrition, yoga, pilates, traditional chinese medicine and facial reflexology.

Event space totals 3,745 square metres. It includes the 1,545-square-metre Waldorf Astoria grand ballroom, which accommodates up to 2,500 guests for receptions, and an Executive Hub for meetings.

“Kuala Lumpur’s cultural richness and energy make it a compelling setting for Waldorf Astoria’s Malaysian debut,” said Dino Michael, senior vice president and category head of Hilton Luxury Brands. “The hotel brings an extraordinary sense of space, artistry and occasion to the capital, with the personal service that turns a remarkable setting into a memorable stay. It reflects the ambition behind Waldorf Astoria’s global expansion: hotels that contribute to the social life of their cities and become places guests form a lasting attachment to.”
