UK hotel makes guests ‘guinea pigs’ for new dishes

The Earl of Doncaster Hotel in Doncaster, England, has created “Guinea Pig Night,” a once-a-month chance for guests to sample new dishes at the property’s Café Bar Concerto and vote on what makes it onto the outlet’s new menu.

For £15 (US$24) per person, guests receive a three-course meal by Chef Paul Thompson and a glass of house wine. One catch, though, is that they don’t know the menu in advance.

“At The Earl, we really just want to develop a dining experience with a really personal aspect to it,” explained Hotel Manager Fraser Wolstencroft. “Allowing diners to taste new dishes and make the final decision as to what goes on the new menu is the perfect way of achieving it. After all, it’s the public who choose to dine with us, so it’s only right that they participate in picking the menu we provide.”
