Trump closes on Doral, plans $200 million redo

The Trump Organization on Monday announced it has closed on its purchase of Doral Golf Resort & Spa and that the Trump Hotel Collection has assumed management of the Miami resort known for its five championship golf courses.

Trump plans to invest more than US$200 million in the almost 800 acre (323 hectare) resort, including its 700 guestrooms, ballrooms and meeting facilities and spa, to aggressively reposition the property over the next 18 months. The property will remain fully operational during the renovation, which is expected to conclude in Fall 2013.

Golf course architect Gil Hanse will work directly with Donald Trump and the PGA Tour leadership to completely rebuild the famed Blue Monster and the other golf courses.

WATG and Wimberly Interiors have been retained to reimagine the architecture and design. The property’s facade will be enhanced with coquina stone, outdoor walkways and decorative tile work.
