In honor of the cocktail’s 80th anniversary this month, St. Regis Hotels & Resorts announced it will bottle and retail the iconic Bloody Mary, which was born at the King Cole Bar at The St. Regis New York in 1934.
The Bloody Mary originated as the Red Snapper, as in the 1930s “Bloody Mary” was deemed too vulgar for the hotel’s elegant bar. St. Regis bartender Fernand Petiot spiced up a tomato-juice-and-vodka libation with celery salt, pepper, cayenne, lemon and Worcestershire sauce, reinventing a cocktail originally enjoyed at Harry’s Bar in Paris.

St. Regis will produce the limited-edition Bloody Mary mix in partnership with Arrowhead Farms, event designer Bronson van Wyck’s cocktail line. A 25-ounce bottle of cocktail mix is available for US$28 via the St. Regis website.
The brand also will host signature St. Regis Bloody Mary brunches at its properties around the world to celebrate the cocktail’s anniversary.
