IHG Hotels & Resorts announced the signing of a Kimpton hotel in Madrid and it’s doing it in partnership with Spain’s most well-known department store—El Corte Inglés.

The hotel is being developed in Madrid’s fashionable and tony Salamanca neighborhood, known for its upscale shopping and array of restaurants. This will be the first Kimpton-branded hotel in the Spanish capital, but not the first in Spain, with other Kimpton’s in Barcelona, Mallorca and Marbella.

Colliers Hotels Iberia acted as advisor.

The 106-key hotel is expected to open in mid-2030 and will occupy a heritage building. The property will feature a ground-floor restaurant, spa and indoor pool as well as a rooftop bar and restaurant overlooking Madrid.

“The signing of our first Kimpton in Madrid marks an exciting milestone for IHG as we continue to grow our luxury and lifestyle portfolio in strategic markets across Europe,” said Willemijn Geels, VP of development, Europe, IHG Hotels & Resorts. “Spain is a cornerstone of our European growth strategy, offering significant scale potential and strong fundamentals, and we’re delighted to partner with El Corte Inglés on this exciting new hotel. Madrid has firmly established itself as one of Europe’s most compelling destinations for luxury travel, and this exceptional hotel will give guests a distinctive new way to experience the city through Kimpton’s bold design, heartfelt service and locally inspired experiences.”

Tourism became one of Madrid’s leading economic sectors in 2025, reaching a record €17.9 billion in international visitor spending, up 11% year-on-year and 71% versus 2019, according to National Institute of Statistics. The hotel is located near the city’s shopping, dining and cultural sites.

IHG has 116 open and 68 pipeline properties in its luxury and lifestyle portfolio across Europe and 66 open and 16 pipeline properties across all segments in Spain.
