ORLANDO Sonesta International Hotels Corp. has lost one of its four U.S. flags, with the conversion of the former Sonesta Orlando Hotel Downtown to Hilton Worldwide’s DoubleTree brand.
The 341-key hotel, now DoubleTree by Hilton Orlando Downtown, is on its fifth name in six years. Since 2005, the 15-story property has also operated as a Radisson, a Sheraton and as an independent, according to Orlando Sentinel. It is now managed by Crescent Hotels & Resorts.
The hotel has financially struggled in recent years, selling in 2009 for US$8 million to its current owners, Resolution Services LLC and Glenmont Capital Management LLC.
Boston-based Sonesta has 26 hotels in its portfolio, with just three—in New Orleans, Boston and Miami—in the United States. A second Miami property is slated to open later this year.
