Steven Ellingsen, a hospitality industry veteran, has launched Somnium Hospitality Group, a full-service hospitality group which consists of a range of branded and boutique hotels, full-service resorts and golf experiences.

Ellingsen serves as president and founder of the multi-brand approved hotel and asset management company. Based in Chicago, the venture aims to provide a forward-thinking platform by using a different approach to the traditional hotel management model.

Somnium offers a full suite of services, which includes asset strategic planning, sales and marketing, revenue management, IT technology, accounting and financial management, F&B, digital media, owner representation and economic modeling. These services directly address owners’ expectations to maximize their properties’ profit and value.

Somnium’s strategy includes investing a considerable amount of time to understand owners’ investments, which gives the company a sense of how the business is operating. Coupled with Somnium’s knowledge of the hospitality sector, this strategy allows the company to assist owners and management teams on the best plan of action.

At present, Somnium’s portfolio of managed and asset-managed properties include Chicago Oak Brook Hills Resort and Conference Center; Holiday Inn Fairborn, Ohio; Homewood Suites Fairborn, Ohio; Moxy Portland; Pali Hotel Seattle; Pali Hotel San Francisco; and Pali Hotel Santa Monica.

Officially launched on January 1, the venture is looking to expand its footprint across the U.S.

Moxy Hotel Portland is part of Somnium Hospitality’s managed and asset-managed properties.

“Somnium, which means ‘to dream’ in Latin, aims to reimagine the traditional hospitality management model. We create impactful environments and meaningful experiences where dreams unify with vision and performance,” Ellingsen said in a statement.

Ellingsen oversees the company’s property and asset management aspects. Hailing from Santa Barbara, Calif., he started his journey in the hospitality sector more than 31 years ago from his first position at The Ritz Carlton Hotel Company in California.

Dan White serves as the group’s COO/CFO. Beginning his career in hospitality in finance, he has spent more than 15 years as an area director, where he developed and led more than $50 million in annual revenues. In the last 10 years, White has led area general management for several management companies.
