ZANZIBAR, TANZANIA Sol Meliá will make its debut in Tanzania with the reflagging of the former Zamani Kempinski, Zanzibar.
The 107-key resort will reopen in August as Meliá Zanzibar, managed under the Meliá Hotels & Resorts flag. It will be Mallorca-based Sol Meliá’s sixth property in Africa and the third country presence on the continent, joining Egypt and Cabo Verde.
Meliá Zanzibar features 100 standard guestrooms and seven villas, the latter with their own private pool, solarium, living room, kitchen and butler service. Hotel amenities include a spa, beauty and fitness center, outdoor sports facilities, meeting venues, three bars, two restaurants and a beach club.
Sol Meliá operates four hotels in Egypt and one in the archipelago republic of Cabo Verde, where two additional hotels are slated to open by 2015. The company is in an aggressive international expansion mode, with 91% of its development and conversion pipeline located beyond its native Spain.
