The New York City-based King & Grove hotel company is being rebranded by its CEO Ed Scheetz as Chelsea Hotels, according to the New York Daily News.
Named after the company’s Hotel Chelsea in New York, which continues to undergo a massive and controversial renovation that included the attempted forced eviction of long-standing Chelsea residents by former Sheetz partner Chetrit Group, five hotels in New York City and Ruschmeyer’s in the Hamptons beach community outside the city will sit under the new brand name. In addition, all hotels will reportedly get refreshes under the new brand name.
At the same time, the King & Grove New York will revert to its original name, the Martha Washington, and the King & Grove Williamsburg will become the McCarren Hotel & Pool. The upscale boutique Chelsea is finally expected to reopen sometime next year and the former Morgans Hotel Group CEO is also working on the Hotel Astor in New York City for a 2016 opening.
Meanwhile, the saga surrounding the Hotel Chelsea continues with The Real Deal in New York City reporting that a Manhattan Supreme Court judge on Tuesday granted architect Gene Kaufman an injunction in connection with a lawsuit he filed against King & Grove. Kaufman alleges that Marvel Architects was still using his designs for the planned conversion of the Chelsea after he was fired from the project.
