Half Moon will complete its phased reopening by Dec. 20, one year after Hurricane Melissa struck Jamaica. The resort will reopen its Founders Cove accommodations and amenities.
Salamander Collection manages the 400-acre resort, which has operated since 1954. Eclipse at Half Moon and the villas at Half Moon reopened in April. The resort suspended operations after the hurricane for restoration work while supporting more than 850 team members, all personally affected by the storm.
“Over the past year, our team members have demonstrated remarkable dedication to bringing Half Moon back,” said Shernette Crichton, managing director. “As we reach the end of our long journey, Half Moon comes full circle. It is a milestone that reflects not only the work undertaken across the resort, but also the people, resilience, traditions and Jamaican hospitality that have shaped Half Moon for generations.”
Founders Cove will include the West Cottages, Hibiscus, Ocean Court, Seagrape Terrace and the Cedar Bar. Reconfigured two-bedroom ocean court suites, the over the Moon shop and Garlandstone gallery also will open.
The Half Moon founders cup golf tournament returns Dec. 12. It has raised funds for charitable organizations in Jamaica.
Sugar Mill has reopened, and chef Omar Gabriele Bernardi has been appointed at Delmare. In the 2026 Condé Nast Traveler Readers’ Choice Awards, Half Moon ranked No. 1 among resorts in Jamaica and No. 13 in the Caribbean.
“We are seeing encouraging forward bookings with particular interest in the peak holiday period,” added Crichton. “The response reflects continued confidence in Jamaica as a leading Caribbean destination. We are proud of what has been accomplished and grateful to everyone who has supported us. We look forward to welcoming returning and first-time guests to experience Half Moon in its entirety this winter.”
