Roberts Hotel Group proposes plan for shuttered Detroit Omni

DETROIT Omni Detroit Hotel at River Place, closed for more than a month, could reopen as soon as April, under a proposal from Roberts Hotel Group of St. Louis.

Roberts is seeking a US$700,000 loan from Detroit’s Economic Development Corp. to fund an acquisition and renovation of the property. Roberts plans to spend US$7 million on reopening the hotel, pending the quasi-governmental agency granting the loan, Detroit Free Press reports.

The 108-key Omni has been closed since mid-October. Omni Hotels & Resorts reportedly placed an asking price of US$6 million, or US$55,555 per key.
