Prague’s Augustine may become Ritz-Carlton

A Rocco Forte hotel in Prague may become a Ritz-Carlton.

Business New Europe reported that according to anonymous sources, the 101-room Augustine Hotel Prague’s owner Luxembourg-based Waldeck Capital is reportedly in talks with The Ritz-Carlton Hotel Co. about converting the property after putting Rocco Forte Hotels on notice to exit its lease. The hotel would first be closed and then reopened.

None of the parties are confirming the report, as Rocco Forte Hotels, London, said it is still in its 30-year lease for the property and that has not received a notice to exit the lease.

“We are unable to confirm the new operator for The Augustine until all contracts and agreements have been signed and executed,” Thomas Smit, Waldeck Capital chairman told Business New Europe.

When contacted by HOTELS, The Ritz-Carlton Hotel Co., Chevy Chase, Maryland, neither confirmed nor denied the report.
