Park Hyatt opens first hotel in Morocco

Hyatt Hotels Corp. has grown the presence of its Park Hyatt brand in Africa with opening of the Park Hyatt Marrakech. The hotel also marks the brand’s introduction in Morocco.

Located around 15 kilometers from the Medina district in Marrakech, Park Hyatt Marrakech spans 19 acres and sits adjacent to the Al Maaden Golf Resort, offering guests easy access to the 18-hole golf course. Situated at the base of the Atlas Mountains, the resort is surrounded by palm, jacaranda and olive trees.

Guests can enjoy views of the Atlas Mountains and Mount Toubkal from the main pool sun beds, lobby’s grand window and the spa treatment and relaxation rooms.

The property has been a “highly anticipated” inclusion to Park Hyatt’s portfolio, as Morocco has been enjoying a resurgence of interest as a top tier cultural destination among travelers, said Javier Águila, group president EAME, Hyatt.

“Offering a wealth of new experiences across the arts, culture, and gastronomy, alongside the area’s historic and ancient treasures, Park Hyatt Marrakech provides guests an enviable opportunity to discover the beauty of the Red City through this modern sanctuary of timeless luxury.”

Park Hyatt Marrakech marks the 11th Park Hyatt property in the Europe, Middle East, and Africa region, following the brand’s expansion in destinations such as Doha, Vienna, Istanbul, Dubai, Zurich, Milan and Paris. The hotel also joins Park Hyatt Zanzibar and the upcoming Park Hyatt Johannesburg, which is scheduled to open in 2025.

Currently, Park Hyatt has 45 hotels open globally.

DESIGN

Park Hyatt Marrakech is a modern and stylish take on the Arab-Berber heritage and consists of 16 pavilions, which are arranged around a central, zeolite patio. Inspired by Arab-Berber traditions, Marrakech-based architect Imaad Rahmouni has created a luxe, contemporary design for the property.

The hotel offers 130 residentially-inspired spacious rooms and suites with Moroccan touches. Each room features traditionally woven woollen Berber carpets and headboards with the Tataoui motif, along with local modern artworks sourced from Ifitry Artists’ Residence.

Ifitry has partnered with Park Hyatt Marrakech and curated over 700 pieces of art for the hotel, featuring artists from Morocco, Senegal, Benin, Spain, France, Italy and Japan. The lobby features a suspension on the ceiling, consisting of around 600 hand-crafted ceramic pieces by artist Mounat Charrat, depicting a constellation of meteorites, while a contrast to the surrounding, raw earth wall is created by two abstract paintings by Italian artist Gianni Lucchessi.

F&B

The resort offers several dining options, which are inspired by authentic and international cuisines. This includes TFAYA, an Arabesque brasserie led by Moroccan chef Issam Rhachi.

Le Pavillon is a light, all-day dining restaurant where guests can enjoy their food under pergolas on the terrace or on a poolside sun bed.

The Living Room, a signature social space in all Park Hyatt properties, allows guests to unwind surrounded by fireplaces and bookshelves.

WELLNESS

Park Hyatt Marrakech features a spa, which is spread across over 23,000 square feet, offering personalized treatments, such as a Hammam Escape and a Muscle and Sports Massage.

The hotel includes a hair salon, a fitness center spanning 2,153 square feet and a yoga studio. Guests can also access an outdoor heated pool, family-friendly outdoor pool and an indoor heated pool.

EVENT SPACES

The resort has seven function rooms, featuring a residential look and desert-inspired aesthetic. The function spaces can accommodate up to 80 guests.

Each pavilion — called Douars — has a rooftop terrace with panoramic views.
