Ottawa Crowne Plaza hotel rebrands as Delta

OTTAWA Delta Hotels and Resorts has assumed management of and reflagged the former Crowne Plaza Hotel Ottawa.

The 411-key property relaunched as Delta Ottawa City Centre last month. It is located across the street from the chain’s other property in Canada’s capital, Delta Ottawa Hotel and Suites.

“We are excited to expand our portfolio in Ottawa with a second hotel in a strategic downtown location,” says President and CEO Hank Stackhouse. “The addition of this new hotel puts Delta among the largest hotel meeting facilities in Ottawa, strengthens our presence in the city and positions us to gain a larger share of the market, particularly with meetings business.”

The hotel will undergo a C$25 million renovation to upgrade the lobby, public areas, food and beverage outlets, fitness center, meeting space and guestrooms. The renovations will also include a new street level main entrance way to the hotel by removing the existing ramp. The renovations will also see the creation of three floors dedicated to Delta’s exclusive Signature Club guestrooms and lounge.

The renovations will start in June and are scheduled to be completed by March 2012. The hotel will remain open and continue to operate throughout the renovations.

Delta Ottawa City Centre boasts 26,000 sq. ft. of meeting space and a 26th floor penthouse reception area with floor- to-ceiling windows and overlooking Parliament and the Ottawa River. Other amenities include a full-service restaurant, 101 Café and Lounge, as well as an indoor pool, sauna, fitness room and squash courts.

“Ontario has been identified as a strategic market for Delta’s continued expansion,” Stackhouse says. “We recently announced plans for a new hotel in downtown Toronto, and opened our doors in Sault Ste. Marie earlier this year. Guests will now have the choice of two city-center locations to meet their travel needs in the Ottawa region.”
