Omni Pontoque Resort at Punta de Mita appoints GM

Omni Hotels & Resorts has appointed Fernando Gibaja as general manager of Omni Pontoque Resort at Punta de Mita, the brand’s first luxury property in Riviera Nayarit, Mexico. Gibaja will oversee all aspects of the resort’s pre-opening planning, operational strategy and guest experience as the property prepares to open in spring 2027.

With more than 30 years of international experience, Gibaja brings a track record of leading luxury hotels and resorts across Europe, Asia, the Middle East, the United States and Mexico. Most recently, he served as general manager of The St. Regis Punta Mita Resort.

“As we continue to expand Omni’s presence in premier leisure destinations, the appointment of Fernando Gibaja marks an important milestone for the opening of Omni Pontoque Resort at Punta de Mita,” said Dan Piotrowski, SVP of operations for Omni Hotels & Resorts. “Fernando brings the powerful combination of results-driven execution, strategic vision and local expertise that this opening demands. As we approach our 2027 opening, we are confident his leadership will be instrumental in establishing a strong foundation for the resort’s long-term success and setting a new benchmark for luxury hospitality in the region.”

Throughout his career, Gibaja has held senior leadership roles at various luxury hotels and resorts, including Capella Hotels and Resorts, Jumeirah Group and The Ritz-Carlton Hotel Company.

“I am honored to join Omni at such a pivotal moment, as the brand makes its debut in Mexico in one of the most extraordinary destinations,” said Gibaja. “Riviera Nayarit is a place I have come to know and appreciate deeply, not only for its breathtaking natural beauty, but for the depth of its culture and warmth of its people. Working alongside our ownership, development partners and future associates, I look forward to shaping a guest experience that reflects the authentic spirit of the region while upholding Omni’s renowned standard of hospitality.”

Omni Pontoque Resort at Punta de Mita will feature 202 guest rooms, 42 suites and two villas, a luxury spa, five ocean-view restaurants, five resort pools and more than 27,000 square feet of indoor and outdoor meeting and event space.
