New golf resort in Scotland:   Former BBC chairman Gavyn Davies and his wife have purchased the Machrie Hotel on the island of Islay for £1.3 million and are planning on spending additional millions of pounds to create a championship-level golf resort.

5th hotel for Resorts World Manila:   A fifth hotel is set to be added at the Resorts World Manila mega-complex in the Philippines. A memorandum of understanding to manage the hotel has been signed by Travellers International Hotels Group for the planned 350-room five-star hotel. A construction date has not been released yet.

Hawaii occupancy rate weak:   Average occupancy at Hawaii hotels increased only 1.4% in May, the smalled amount in the last 18 months according to a new Hospitality Advisors study.

Orbitz launches iPad app:   Online travel agency Orbitz released its first iPad application on Wednesday. Users can book hotels and airfare with the app using features not available on Orbitz’s iPhone app.
