News in brief: Memphis Sheraton, Meraas, St Giles

Memphis Sheraton: Memphis, Tennessee’s convention center hotel, the 600-room Sheraton Memphis Downtown Hotel, will be sold by Host Hotels & Resorts for US$67 million to a joint venture of Louisville, Kentucky-based Schulte Hospitality Group and Starwood Capital Group. Schulte will operate the hotel and hold a minority ownership stake.

Meraas brands: Hotelier Middle East is reporting that Dubai-based hotel company Meraas is launching four brands ranging from luxury to mid-market: Evado, consisting of luxury boutiques of no more than 80 rooms; Re Vera, luxury hotels in landmark buildings close to attractions; Vivus, upper-upscale hotels in differing designs; and MQ, upper-midscale with lobbies as the main focus and including working spaces and pop-up stores. The first of the brands’ hotels will open in 2018.

St Giles in Cuba: St Giles Hotels will take over management of the Hotel Deauville in Havana, becoming the first British hotel brand to open in Cuba. The hotel will re-open after a refurbishment as the Deauville – a St Giles Signature hotel, in 2019.

AAHOA-Magnuson linkup: Magnuson Hotels is allowing the 16,000 members of the Asian American Hotel Owners Association (AAHOA) to access its global reservation system. AAHOA will also join Magnuson’s global hotel alliance with China’s Jin Jiang Hotels and Louvre Hotels Group of Europe.

 


Four Seasons in Tunisia: Four Seasons Hotels & Resorts and Mabrouk Group of Tunisia will open the Four Seasons Hotel Tunis later this year. The 200-room hotel will be the first of the brand in that country.

Reserve in Mexico: Zadún, a Ritz-Carlton Reserve hotel, will open in early 2018 on the coast of San José del Cabo. The 115-room resort is the fourth Reserve to open. 

 


 

Carlton in Dubai: After a change in ownership, Warwick Hotels & Resorts will no longer operate its Warwick Hotel Dubai, which was sold recently to First Investor LLC. Carlton Hotels will operate the hotel, which is now known as Carlton Downtown Hotel.
