News in brief: Claridge’s, DoubleTree, Accor

Claridge’s basement buildout: London’s Claridge’s hotel has been granted permission to build out its 20,000-square-foot, five-story basement. Plans include a swimming pool, spa, wine cellar, bakery and chocolatier. Two stories will be added to the building to create 40 additional guestrooms.

DoubleTree Houston: Brookfield Property Partners will acquire the DoubleTree Houston Hotel in downtown Houston. Brookfield will reposition the hotel as part of its redevelopment of Allen Center in the city’s central business district. Terms were not disclosed.

 


Accor in Egypt: AccorHotels signed four new hotel management agreements with ARCO. The hotels will be located on Egypt’s north coast and be opened by 2022. They include the Fairmont Fuka Bay, Swissotel Fuka Bay, Novotel Al Alamein City, and Ibis Styles Al Alamein City.

Crowne Plaza purchase: TJM Properties of Florida purchased the Crowne Plaza North-Worthiington in Columbus, Ohio. The company plans a renovation. A purchase price was not disclosed.
