News in brief: AccorHotels, guest engagement

China Lodging, AccorHotels: China Lodging Group, Limited, completed the transaction of its strategic alliance with AccorHotels. Under the terms of the agreement, the AccorHotels’ economy hotel business integrates into China Lodging Group’s network. China Lodging Group is now the master franchisee for Mercure, ibis Styles and ibis in mainland China, Taiwan and Mongolia. AccorHotels’ Grand Mercure and Novotel brands will be developed and operated by both AccorHotels and China Lodging Group under a co-development agreement.

Guest engagement’s revenue impact: A recent study by Gallup showed that guests spent US$457 on average per stay at their most frequently visited hotel over the course of 12 months, while engaged guests spent US$588 per stay on average. Actively disengaged guests only spent US$403 per stay on average, suggesting engagement could be an indicator of business growth. Gallup reports just 22% of hotel customers on average are engaged with their most frequented hotel, also suggesting an opportunity for hotels to improve their guest engagement.
