LAS VEGAS The scale replica Statue of Liberty at New York-New York Hotel & Casino on the Las Vegas Strip is depicted on a new U.S. postage stamp, rather than the real landmark, as was intended.
The image is a close-up of Lady Liberty’s face and crown, except that the U.S. Postal Service unwittingly selected a stock photo from the MGM Resorts International-owned gaming resort instead of the iconic statue in New York City.
Perhaps the most obvious clue that the replica is depicted comes from the fact that the faux windows of Liberty’s crown are painted black, rather than being actual windows.
The USPS printed about 3 billion of the stamps before realizing the mistake. The federal agency has no plans to recall or reissue the stamps.
