New Orleans among top markets for hotel rate increases in April

NORTH AMERICA Hoteliers in New Orleans have seen booked rates spike 23% this month on discount online travel agency site Hotwire.com, tied for the biggest year-over-year increase in North America with Oahu and Phoenix.

A 4star guestroom in New Orleans is averaging US$128 on Hotwire in April.

Other top booked-rate improvements on Hotwire this month include Miami (up 21%) and Las Vegas (up 20%).

On the other end of the spectrum, Syracuse, New York, leads the way on the price-drop list. Rooms at 3.5-star hotels in that market are selling for US$85 per night, which is 23% lower than a year ago.

Rounding out the top five rate-drops are Flagstaff, Arizona (down 9%); Newark, New Jersey (down 6%); San Antonio (down 5%); and Vancouver (down 3%).

The Hotwire Hotel Rate Report features booking results from the second week of each month. Prices are compared within the same star rating categories for consistency, and the percent change in price for each region is generated as an overall average of the changes in those categories.
