Motel 6 Is First LEED-Certified Economy Lodging Property

NORTHLAKE, TEXAS Accor’s Motel 6 brand is the first to boast a LEED-certified property in the economy lodging segment. The newest Motel 6, located in Northlake, Texas, is also Accor’s first LEED-certified hotel.

“With the brand’s Phoenix prototype, we are setting the pace for the future of Motel 6, which, in line with our values, must be as energy-efficient as possible,” says Olivier Poirot, CEO of Accor North America. “LEED’s high environmental standards lend a great deal of credence to our efforts, and we look forward to continuing on the path to greater sustainable practices in the future.”

Opened in October, Motel 6 Northlake-Speedway employs sustainable heating and cooling systems and participates in a fluorescent lighting and battery recycling program. Other green initiatives include thermal solar water heating, wireless occupancy-sensing thermostats, high-efficiency laundry equipment with computer-controlled dryers, native landscaping with water-efficient and drought-resistant plants and high-tech irrigation control.

Motel 6 Northlake-Speedway was designed by BOKA Powell of Dallas.
