Minor Hotel Group announced on Thursday the launch of Avani Hotels & Resorts, a new upscale brand.
The brand is set to debut with the November opening of the 90-room beachfront Avani Bentota Resort & Spa, located in Bentota, Sri Lanka. The property was previously called Hotel Serendib and is currently closed for renovation.
A second Avani hotel, the Avani Kalutara Resort in in Kalutara, Sri Lanka is set to open in 2012. Minor said that after establishing these two properties, the brand is looking to expand in South Asia, the Middle East, Australia and Africa.
“The launch of Avani serves as a two-edged sword in Minor’s expansion roll out,” said Dillip Rajakarier, Minor Hotel Group CEO. “The refreshing new brand carves a dynamically different pathway for our group by offering a unique hotel concept.”
The word avani means “earth” in Sanskrit, and Minor says it was chosen to reflect the brand’s simplicity and grounded personality as well as to reflect Minor’s Asian heritage.
Minor Hotel Group is a subsidiary of Minor International Pcl, Bangkok.
