Marriott signs agreement to bring JW Marriott to Fiji

Marriott International has signed an agreement with Dubbo Pte Ltd, a subsidiary of Fiji National Provident Fund (FNPF), to introduce JW Marriott to Fiji with JW Marriott Fiji Resort & Spa. The property on Denarau Island is planned to have 282 keys and is expected to open in the first quarter of 2027. Reservations are expected to open in December 2026.

The signing marks the planned debut of the JW Marriott brand in the Pacific Islands. The resort will be Marriott’s first luxury brand resort in the region, adding to its existing portfolio there. The agreement is a conversion of the existing Westin Fiji Golf Resort & Spa. The introduction of the brand is intended to strengthen Fiji’s position in the travel market and to meet traveler demand for luxury tourism experiences.

“Fiji is one of the Pacific’s most compelling resort destinations, and we are excited to work with Fiji National Provident Fund to introduce JW Marriott to the market,” said said Rajeev Menon, president of Asia Pacific Excluding China, Marriott International. “JW Marriott’s focus on mindful experiences, meaningful connections and holistic well-being is a natural complement to the resort’s beautiful natural setting on Denarau Island. We look forward to creating a destination where guests can come together, be present and experience the warmth of Fiji through the lens of this exceptional luxury brand.”

Plans for the resort include guestrooms and suites, two-bedroom villas with private swimming pools, a family pool and an adults-only pool with a poolside bar and dining. A new lobby and communal areas are planned, along with a kids club and a teen zone.

Dining plans include an all-day restaurant combining global flavors and Pacific traditions and JW Market, which will offer casual all-day refreshments and grab-and-go options. A specialty restaurant will draw on Japanese influences with locally sourced ingredients. The resort also plans a wine and cocktail lounge and a dining and cultural experience rooted in Fijian tradition.

“As custodians of our members’ retirement savings, every investment decision we make is centred on creating long-term value for the people of Fiji,” said Viliame Vodonaivalu, chief executive officer of Fiji National Provident Fund. “The introduction of JW Marriott is a significant milestone for one of our key tourism assets and reflects our confidence in the future of Fiji’s tourism industry. Through this collaboration, we are not only strengthening an important investment on behalf of our members, but also supporting an industry that creates jobs, attracts visitors and contributes to the growth of our economy. We are proud to see this iconic Fijian resort enter a new chapter with one of the world’s leading luxury hospitality brands.”

For events, the resort is planned to have a 309-square-meter ballroom, a 490-square-meter pre-function foyer and five meeting rooms. The ballroom is planned to accommodate up to 180 guests in banquet seating.

On opening, the resort is expected to serve Marriott Bonvoy members and travelers on Denarau Island.
