Marriott grows Greater China portfolio, signs two hotels in Beijing

Marriott International is set to grow its footprint in Greater China. The hospitality company has signed an agreement with Beijing North Star Co. Ltd. to open a Ritz-Carlton and a Marriott Marquis hotel in Beijing.

This will be the third Ritz-Carlton and the first Marriott Marquis in the city.

While The Ritz-Carlton Beijing, North is slated to open in 2026, the Beijing Marriott Marquis Hotel will be located at the China National Convention Center Phase II.

Spread across 780,000 square meters, the China National Convention Center Phase II is a large complex that houses offices, hotels, a retail area, leisure facilities and vast areas for events, conferences and exhibitions.

“We are delighted to collaborate with Marriott International, bringing their two prestigious brands to the China National Convention Center Phase II,” said Weidong Li, chairman of the board, Beijing North Star Co. Ltd. “The project is a stepping stone in our journey to drive innovation through strategic signing. We look forward to delivering an unprecedented level of accommodation and service to visitors and local residents.”

An important part of the complex, these hotels are situated about 20 kilometers away from the Beijing Capital International Airport. Cultural and leisure attractions — such as the National Stadium (Bird’s Nest), the National Aquatics Center (Water Cube) and the China Intangible Cultural Heritage Museum — are within walking distance.

“Guided by the ‘Brand + Destination’ development strategy, the signing is a testimony of our continued growth in Greater China in key cities. We look forward to bringing a broad portfolio of our best brands and experiences to where travelers are desired to be,” said Gavin Yu, chief development officer, Greater China, Marriott International.

The Ritz-Carlton currently has more than 110 hotels across 35 countries.
