Marriott backs launch of sustainable purchasing consortium

BETHESDA, MARYLAND Marriott International is among a group of leaders in the hotel industry representing brands, hotel suppliers and architecture firms that are launching an industry-wide index to provide standards for sustainable purchasing of hotel furniture, fixtures and equipment.

The Hospitality Sustainable Purchasing Consortium, led by consulting firm MindClick SGM, will work collaboratively to facilitate greening the FF&E supply chain for hotels. The consortium aims to create an index to comprehensively measure the sustainability of suppliers and their products. It will also establish measures of sustainable purchasing performance for brands, owners and FF&E manufacturers, and will establish performance indicators that enhance the environmental and social impact of the hotel industry while continuing to provide the highest levels of quality and service for hotel guests.

Consortium founding members include Marriott, Audit Logistics, Benjamin West, Delta Faucet Co., Innvision, InterfaceFlor, PE International Inc., RTKL, SERA Architects and Valley Forge Fabrics.

“Marriott has a more than 20-year commitment to environmental sustainability,” says Dave Lippert, Marriott’s vice president of architecture and construction procurement.  “Our membership in this consortium will help us meet our aggressive goals to continue to reduce our global footprint.”
