MUMBAI Mandarin Oriental Hotel Group is reportedly negotiating on a management deal in Mumbai that would mark the luxury hotelier’s debut in India.
Hong Kong-based Mandarin Oriental is in talks with Oberoi Realty to manage a luxury hotel that it plans to build in Mumbai’s Worli neighborhood, The Economic Times reports. Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide, which manages the 269-key Westin Mumbai City Garden on behalf of Oberoi Realty, is also in the mix.
The proposed 3.1 million-sq.-ft. mixed-use development would also have 200 branded residences, which could be branded by Mandarin Oriental separately from any management deal for the hotel, according to the newspaper.
Mandarin Oriental executives have been looking at options for entering the India market for at least several months, with Mumbai and New Delhi at the top of the company’s wish list.
