Majestic Hotel & Spa Barcelona, a member of Leading Hotels of the World and a Passeig de Gràcia property open since 1918, is undertaking a phased renovation of its guestrooms and suites, dining, wellness and social spaces. Public areas are being redesigned by Barcelona-based designer Lázaro Rosa-Violán, whose past projects include Amazónico, Casa Neos Miami and The Bazaar by José Andrés in New York. The work coincides with Barcelona’s designation as UNESCO–UIA World Capital of Architecture 2026 and the Gaudí Year, which marks the centenary of Antoni Gaudí’s death and the completion of the Tower of Jesus at La Sagrada Família.
Luis Cobo has been named general manager. Cobo joined Majestic from Park Hyatt Dubai and previously held roles with Four Seasons and Maybourne Group in London, Paris, Bora Bora and Dubai.

“You do not simply manage a hotel like this – you are entrusted with it,” said Cobo. “I walk through Majestic and imagine what a guest must have felt stepping into this lobby, or into their suite, in the 1920s. Now I have the privilege of shaping that same sense of arrival for the guests who will walk through it a century from now. We are not reinventing Majestic; we are making sure there is another century on the horizon for this beautiful icon of Barcelona.”
The first completed phase is a redesigned rooftop terrace, La Dolce Vitae, which opened ahead of the summer season with a new culinary direction from Executive Chef David Romero and a monthly program called “Gaudí from Above.” The rooftop also added wellness programming, weekly jazz and rumba performances, vinyl sessions and breakfast service, which was recognized by Prix Villégiature as Europe’s Best Luxury Hotel Breakfast.
Upcoming phases include a redesigned lobby and El Bar del Majestic, a new hair spa concept, redesigned guestrooms and suites, two new signature suites—the restored Machado Suite and a new Gaudí Suite — a Japanese omakase concept, and an in-room minibar featuring ready-to-enjoy cocktails, including a Majestic-style Negroni.
