Luxury hotel development continues in Sri Lanka

NILAVELI, SRI LANKA Esna Villas, a subsidiary of Sri Lanka-based consultancy Esna Holdings, is planning to launch a luxury beach resort in Nilaveli, located on the island’s eastern coast.

The boutique-style project is valued at US$1 million and marks Esna’s debut in the hotel industry, which is booming following the conclusion of Sri Lanka’s 30-year ethnic war in 2009. Esna plans to set up similar boutique hotels in other prime tourist locations around the island.

Earlier this month, Mövenpick Hotels & Resorts announced the 180-key Mövenpick Hotel Colombo, which is expected to open by mid-2013. Minor International launched its Anantara brand in Sri Lanka in August, and Shangri-La Hotels and Resorts is also scouting the country for sites.
