‘Lending library’ lets hotel guests look like L.A. locals

Guests at Loews Santa Monica Beach Hotel will soon be able to look like Los Angeles locals thanks to the property’s Fred Segal Lending Library, a collection of jewelry, purses, sunglasses and other accessories on loan from the world-renowned boutique.

The library, set to debut September 6 and offered through an exclusive partnership with Fred Segal Santa Monica, features close to 50 accessories for women, men, children and even pets ranging from a US$10 children’s book to a US$500 evening clutch. Access to the library is free for guests who purchase a suite at the hotel and may eventually be expanded to include all guests. The hotel is publicizing the library on its website and has items listed on an iPad that guests can peruse during their stay.

“When stocking the library, I thought of items I forgot to pack in the past and wished I had the opportunity to borrow from a hotel,” said Kirsten Segal, director of marketing and event planning at Fred Segal who hand-selected all the items in the library. “I focused on accessories because I felt guests would forget to bring those little details or would be more inclined to borrow something fun for the weekend that they didn’t already own.”

Embellished scarves, layered necklaces, oversized stone cuffs, chunky bangles, aviator and fold-up sunglasses, belts, totes, woven leather purses and stylish dog toys all are part of the Fred Segal Lending Library. Photo used courtesy of Loews Santa Monica Beach Hotel.
