Las Vegas Sands may drop city from name

LAS VEGAS Las Vegas Sands Corp. is considering removing Las Vegas from its company name, changing to a moniker reflective of Sands’ international presence.

CEO Sheldon Adelson has publicly suggested either Sands International or Sands Resorts International, although a spokesman says the company has not yet decided on a new name or a timeline for announcing one.

Sands, which owns and operates The Venetian and The Palazzo on the Las Vegas Strip, is perhaps better known among international travelers for its Venetian Macao and its Marina Bay Sands, Singapore. It also owns Four Seasons Hotel Macao and Sands Macao, along with a Sands-branded casino in Pennsylvania and the Sands Expo Center in Las Vegas.

Las Vegas Sands began 2010 as the 98th largest hotel company in the world, according to HOTELS’ Giants 325 listing.
