Kimpton uses video, Facebook, events to roll out yoga amenities

Kimpton Hotels & Restaurants, San Francisco, is stocking all of its guestrooms with custom-designed yoga mats and promoting the initiative with a variety of unique strategies.

Kimpton is providing a new complimentary service through which Kimpton will come to a guest’s room and roll out the yoga mat — in addition to furnishing extra towels, flavored water and an assortment of fresh fruit or dried fruit and nuts and setting the TV to Kimpton’s complimentary on-demand yoga or Pilates channel for inspiration.

To introduce guests to the new in-room yoga mat offering, Kimpton hotels across the United States will invite guests to participate in yoga-centric activities — from pose challenges to trivia contests — during its hosted evening Wine Hour through May 3.

Kimpton will couple these activities with a “Strike a Pose” sweepstakes contest on Kimpton’s Facebook page. From May 1 through May 31, guests and fans of Kimpton are invited to snap a picture of them striking a unique or humorous yoga pose and post it to Kimpton’s Facebook page. Those voted as having the best poses will win a getaway at any Kimpton hotel among other prizes, including yoga mats.

Kimpton also is promoting the yoga initiative via a humorous YouTube video about a businesswoman’s romance with a yoga mat.

“We know that some travel — particularly for business — can suck the life out of you,” said Mike DeFrino, executive vice president of hotel operations at Kimpton Hotels & Restaurants. “Our point of view is that it doesn’t have to, so we’re making it easy for our guests to work in some restorative activity.”
