Kimpton buys Hotel Monaco Baltimore

BALTIMORE, MARYLAND Kimpton Hotels and Restaurants has acquired the 202-key Hotel Monaco Baltimore and B&O American Brasserie out of bankruptcy for about US$33 million.

Kimpton has managed the hotel and restaurant since they opened in 2009. Three of the building’s 13 floors are office and retail space that will be sold to a separate buyer, The Baltimore Sun reports. The building will be subdivided into three separate parcels—hotel, restaurant and office/retail.

Baltimore and Charles Associates spent about US$65 million to buy and renovate the 105-year-old B&O Building in 2007. Baltimore and Charles filed for bankruptcy protection last year.

The building originally housed the headquarters of the Baltimore and Ohio Railroad Co.
