JW Marriott Hotel Tokyo has announced the appointment of Jakob Helgen as general manager. With more than 22 years of global hospitality leadership experience at Marriott International, Helgen will oversee all hotel operations of the hotel, which opened in October 2025.
“Being a passionate and avid JW Marriott brand advocate, I very much look forward to supporting the JW Marriott Hotel Tokyo team on their continuous journey of curating refined luxury experiences and in the further establishment of this stunning new tranquil urban retreat in the heart of Tokyo,” said Helgen.
Most recently, Helgen served as area vice president for Thailand, Vietnam, Cambodia and Myanmar from 2019 to 2024. Previously, he held senior leadership roles as market vice president for South China and later as area vice president overseeing Hong Kong, Macau, Hainan and Taiwan.
He began his career with Marriott in 2002 as director of food & beverage at Renaissance Riverside Hotel Saigon. He subsequently held operational leadership roles at JW Marriott Mumbai and JW Marriott Seoul, before joining the Hong Kong regional office in 2007 as area director of operations for China.
Before joining Marriott, he worked in food and beverage operations at Relais & Châteaux properties and Michelin-starred restaurants across Sweden, Norway, the United Kingdom and France.
