InterContinental to reflag Koh Samui luxury resort

KOH SAMUI, THAILAND InterContinental Hotels & Resorts will reflag and manage the 79-key property currently known as Baan Taling Ngam Resort & Spa, which was the first luxury resort to open on Koh Samui.

The property will close to undergo an extensive US$15 million refurbishment. It is slated to reopen as InterContinental Samui Baan Taling Ngam Resort by December 1.

The property is owned by Elite Villa Co. Ltd. “The current property has a great history—it started out as Koh Samui’s first luxury resort and today remains one of the top resorts in the island,” says Vikorn Srivikorn, managing director of Elite Villa. “The InterContinental brand also has a long and rich heritage, and I believe our future guests will have an experience that combines a great location as well as the services and facilities associated with the InterContinental brand.”

Koh Samui is a popular tourist island destination, located about an hour from Bangkok. “Our region has many natural locations ideal for resorts, and Koh Samui remains one of the most popular travel destinations in Thailand,” says Jan Smits, managing director for IHG Asia Australasia. “The InterContinental Samui Baan Taling Ngam Resort supports our focus on the resort segment and is a wonderful addition to our portfolio.”
