IHG Hotels & Resorts announced the signing of Holiday Inn Express Sapporo Susukino, marking the brand’s second Holiday Inn Express in Japan and its first in Hokkaido. The 223-room hotel is scheduled to open in July 2026 and is currently undergoing renovation.
The hotel is being developed in partnership with Mitsubishi Corporation Urban Development Co., Ltd., Tokyo Tatemono Co., Ltd. and The Sankei Building Co., Ltd. Holiday Inn Express Sapporo Susukino will be the first Holiday Inn Express in Japan to feature the brand’s Generation 5 design. Facilities will include the Express Café, fitness center and guest laundry.
“We’re delighted to partner with Mitsubishi Corporation Urban Development, Tokyo Tatemono and The Sankei Building to bring our second Holiday Inn Express hotel to Japan, which will join our seven existing properties in Hokkaido,” said Abhijay Sandilya, managing director of Japan & Micronesia, IHG Hotels & Resorts and CEO of IHG ANA Hotels Group Japan. “This marks our first partnership with Mitsubishi Corporation Urban Development and The Sankei Building and reflects our shared ambition to create long-term value in a strategically important destination for Japan’s tourism growth. This signing also reflects the continued momentum of conversions, both globally and in Japan. In 2026, all our hotel openings across the country are conversions, demonstrating strong interest from owners seeking fast access to IHG’s leading enterprise, including our marketing, technology and distribution platforms and the power of more than 160 million IHG One Rewards loyalty members.”
“We are pleased to partner with IHG to open the first Holiday Inn Express hotel in Hokkaido. As a globally recognized company with a clear value proposition, IHG’s proven conversion expertise and strong in-market knowledge give us great confidence in this project as we build a successful partnership together,” the consortium of owners said.
The hotel is located in Susukino, five minutes on foot from Susukino Subway Station and three minutes from Shiseikan Shogakkō-mae Streetcar Station. IHG currently operates 59 hotels across 10 brands in Japan with 24 properties in the pipeline.
