IHG signs Hotel Indigo Yogyakarta in Indonesia

IHG Hotels & Resorts has signed Hotel Indigo Yogyakarta in partnership with real estate developer PT Raka Eka Makmur. The hotel is scheduled to open in 2029 and will mark IHG’s debut in Yogyakarta.

The 180-key hotel will include an all-day dining restaurant, rooftop bar and terrace, swimming pool, fitness center and spa. It will also have approximately 740 square meters of meeting and event space, including a ballroom and multiple meeting rooms. The design will reflect the city’s cultural identity and creative heritage.

“We are delighted to bring the Hotel Indigo brand to Yogyakarta, a destination renowned for its rich cultural heritage, creative energy and enduring appeal among domestic and international travelers,” said Chris Anklin, senior director, development, Southeast Asia & Korea of IHG Hotels & Resorts. “As we expand our luxury & lifestyle portfolio across Indonesia, we see growing opportunities in destinations with distinctive local character and authentic stories. Yogyakarta is a natural fit for Hotel Indigo, a brand inspired by the character and spirit of the neighbourhoods it calls home.”

IHG currently operates three Hotel Indigo properties in Indonesia, with six more in the pipeline in destinations including Bali, Jakarta and Lombok. The signing follows Hotel Indigo Bali Seminyak Beach and later openings in Bandung and Bintan.

Yogyakarta’s position as the gateway to Borobudur, one of Indonesia’s five Super Priority Destinations, coupled with strong travel demand and enhanced air connectivity through Yogyakarta International Airport, reinforces its appeal as a key tourism hub.

“We are pleased to partner with IHG to introduce Hotel Indigo to Yogyakarta. As the cultural heart of Java, Yogyakarta is renowned for its rich heritage, artistic traditions and vibrant creative community, making it a natural fit for Hotel Indigo’s neighborhood-inspired approach,” said Ronny Pallar, president director of PT Raka Eka Makmur. “The hotel will offer guests an authentic gateway to the destination’s arts, culinary and cultural experiences while serving as a base to explore iconic UNESCO World Heritage sites such as Borobudur and Prambanan. Together with IHG, we look forward to creating a hotel that captures the spirit of Yogyakarta and enables guests to experience the people, culture and stories that make this destination truly unique.”

IHG operates 35 hotels across nine brands in Indonesia and currently has 13 properties in the pipeline.
