IHG Hotels & Resorts has released details of Kimpton Suntaya Bali Ubud, scheduled to open later this year as the brand’s first property in Indonesia.
The hotel is located at Jalan Bisma, near the Ubud Art Market and the Ubud Palace and Water Palace, which was designed by Balinese artist I Gusti Nyoman Lempad. The property sits alongside the Wos River.
Kimpton Suntaya Bali Ubud will include 101 rooms, among them essential rooms, pool suites and private pool villas. The culinary program will include five dining venues, led by Imamura Ubud, an omakase restaurant under Chef Hirofumi Imamura, who also oversees Shaku by Imamura, a Japanese izakaya-style restaurant.
Wellness offerings will include a two-story fitness studio, recovery facilities for movement and contrast therapy and Sakshi Spa, which draws on Balinese healing traditions.
The hotel’s design, by architecture firm Denton Corker Marshall, follows the contours of Ubud’s hillside and riverside terrain. According to IHG, the design was conceived as a contemporary interpretation of Balinese ceremonial processions.
The property’s name, Suntaya, pronounced SOON-TIE-yah, combines the Sanskrit words “Suniya,” meaning “stillness,” and “Taya,” meaning “vitality.”
Austin Jones, general manager of Kimpton Suntaya Bali Ubud, has worked at nearly a dozen Kimpton properties.

Kimpton was founded in 1981 by Bill Kimpton in San Francisco. The brand’s Asia presence includes hotels in Taipei, Bangkok, Koh Samui, Hong Kong and Kuala Lumpur. Additional openings planned this year include properties in Adelaide, New York, Rotterdam and Shanghai.
