Hyatt opens Thompson Hotel in Rome, the first of the brand in Italy

Hyatt Hotels Corp. announced the opening of Thompson Rome, a 69-room hotel owned and operated by AG Group s.r.l. and Rossifin Group. The hotel is the Thompson Hotels brand’s first in Italy.

The hotel occupies a 1940s building near Piazza Venezia and within walking distance of the Roman Forum, Pantheon and Colosseum. Original elements, including a marble staircase, were restored. A wall and inlaid floor by Italian artist Gio Pomodoro, rediscovered during the renovation, were preserved.

“Rome has such a strong identity, so we wanted Thompson Rome to start with the city itself. The building, the neighborhood, the food, the people and the way Romans live all shaped the hotel,” said Amar Lalvani, chief creative officer of Hyatt Corporation and president and creative director of The Lifestyle Group at Hyatt. “The goal was to create a Thompson hotel that feels at home in Rome, a hotel travelers want to discover and Romans want to come back to.”

“Rome reveals itself over time, through its neighborhoods, its art and, most importantly, its people. At Thompson Rome, we want guests to feel connected to that side of the city from the moment they arrive,” said Arturo Gomez, general manager. “Whether it’s discovering the artists represented throughout the hotel, sharing an aperitivo on the rooftop or simply asking a member of our team where they would spend an afternoon, our hope is that the hotel becomes a starting point for experiencing Rome in a more personal way. And for those of us who live here, we want it to become a place you return to again and again.”

The hotel’s art collection includes works by artists associated with the Scuola Romana and the Scuola di Piazza del Popolo, and by contemporary artists including Francesco Del Drago, Giangaetano Patanè and Guido Strazza. The works appear in public spaces and guestrooms. A rotating artist-in-residence program will include exhibitions, conversations and other cultural programming.

The hotel has 69 guestrooms and suites, including 19 suites. Options include Junior Suites, suites with patios or terraces and the 104-square-meter Thompson Suite, which has an 80-square-meter private terrace.

The hotel has three food and beverage venues. At LYVE Restaurant, executive chef Fabio Fioravanti serves a contemporary Mediterranean menu in which seafood is central. Fioravanti, a native of Ostia, has more than two decades of international experience, including time with the Alain Ducasse group. LYVE Rooftop serves cocktails, Italian aperitivi and a menu designed for sharing. The Lobby Lounge serves coffee, light fare, aperitivo and cocktails throughout the day.

The hotel will also offer a year-round program that includes culinary workshops, guided tastings and Empire of Light, a photography-led experience from the seventh floor.
