Hotel Max, Sub Pop Records create music-themed rooms

Downtown Seattle’s Hotel Max recently collaborated with local record label Sub Pop Records to create a music-focused floor. Each of the 19 guestrooms on the hotel’s fifth floor feature framed band posters, turntables, Sub Pop vinyl records and music videos on the in-room televisions at no additional price.

The collaboration coincides with Sub Pop Records’ 25th anniversary. The Seattle-based label is famous for establishing the grunge movement in the 1990s and for signing several popular bands, such as Nirvana.

The music-centered experience begins in the guest corridors with large-scale photography by Charles Peterson, who is noted both for capturing Seattle’s budding music scene in the late 80s and early 90s and for developing the Sub Pop aesthetic. The rock n’ roll theme continues into the guestrooms, which now feature framed posters of the label’s current musicians as well as QR codes that allow guests to visit the label’s website and purchase merchandise through their smartphones. The guestrooms also include Crosley record players and a selection of Sub Pop curated vinyl records. While the first installation includes albums by The Shins and Flight of the Conchords, Sub Pop will frequently update the in-room records with new releases.

In addition to the fifth-floor installation, all 163 guestrooms in the hotel are now equipped with a Sub Pop channel showcasing music videos of the label both classic and current.
