Six Senses Hotels Resorts Spas recently unveiled its first resort in Europe, in Portugal’s Douro Valley.
The resort covers 20 acres (8 hectares) and comprises 57 guest accommodations. With a décor of light grays and sandy tones, New York-based Clodagh Design has created interiors with eco-friendly materials blending nature with Portuguese traditional design. The use of natural stone, wood and water is emphasized throughout the property.
Food-and-beverage outlets at Six Senses Douro Valley include The Vale d’Abraão Open Kitchen and Dining Room, the Quinta Bar and Lounge and The Wine Library, which extends onto a covered stone terrace with comfortable armchairs, a cozy fire pit and a giant screen to show classic films.
The resort’s Six Senses Spa spans more than 24,000 square feet (2,230 square meters) and comprises 10 treatment rooms and a heated indoor swimming pool with water jets, a steam room, sauna and laconium.
Other facilities include an activities hut as well as a gym. Guests also can enjoy “meditation nests” dotted about the forest on the property.
