New York-based BD Hotels’ Pod Hotels brand opened the Pod DC, a 245-room micro-hotel, its third, located in Washington, D.C.
Owned and operated by Modus Hotels, a Washington D.C.-based lifestyle hotel group, Pod DC was developed with a focus on curated art and photography. The lobby’s open walls highlight local art and feature artists sourced by CulturalDC, a neighborhood nonprofit group.
Pod DC’s F&B partner is Washington-based team Ian and Eric Hilton, who have led popular D.C. bars and restaurants like American Ice Company, Chez Billy Sud and Marvin. The hotel’s main restaurant, Crimson Diner, will serve southern fare and will also feature a whiskey bar on its lower level. Crimson was designed by architect/designer Michael Francis of SAINT, Studio for Architecture and Interiors.
A mix of mid-century and modern elements dominates guest rooms, with design from New York design firm Stonehill & Taylor. Room offerings include double, queen, and bunk bed configurations.
With features like built-in storage and high-tech amenities that allow guests to stream media content, all rooms were designed and scaled to maximize space.
Guestrooms are finished in royal blue with yellow accents and large-scale windows. Bathrooms, entered through a sliding glass barn door, have rain showerheads and terrazzo floors, with eco-friendly bath products.
