Hyatt Regency Jinan opened in Jinan, China, this past September with a goal of reflecting the natural, cultural and historical influences of the surrounding area.

Starting in the lobby, designer Heitz Parsons Sadek incorporated the colors of Jinan and the Yellow River, with a silver travertine and golden marble with a white vein to represent the Yellow River and the snows from the mountains beyond. The walls are wrapped in crotch/flamed walnut, and a giant custom ceiling lantern of amber crystal welcomes guests.

Adjacent to the lobby is Su Yuan patisserie, where a playful wood wave ceiling resembles nearby river flows. A lobby bar aims to be a nest-like space with rich hardwood floors and a fireplace.

The hotel’s 343 guestrooms also were designed to be a reflection of modern, dynamic Jinan and China in general. Rich woods and leathers set a tone of elegance and luxury while modernized traditional Chinese pattern carpet extends the theme of blending old and new.

Additional F&B offerings include Jinan Palace, which serves local Shandong dishes along with Cantonese specialties. The design aims to give the feeling of a charming Jinan street. The ceiling looks like a broad, branching canopy, and the lights look like lanterns, some with birdcages or little birds.

Market Café features show kitchens and food stations in addition to a lighting system of up-lit louvered stainless floating rectangles to resemble the open sky of a street market.

Event space includes a ballroom with a complete wall of exterior glass and a ceiling designed with floating, interlocking luminous panels trimmed in oiled bronze to represent the movement of sky and clouds. The carpet’s gingko leaf pattern expresses the cultural use of gingko nuts during New Year and wedding celebrations.
