As U.S. troops are heading out, Hilton Worldwide is heading into Iraq after signing a deal to open its first branded property in the country.
Hilton Worldwide, McLean, Virginia announced on Wednesday that it signed a deal with real estate developer The Claremont Group, New York City, to open the DoubleTree Suites by Hilton Erbil in the northern Iraqi city of Erbil, located in the country’s relatively peaceful Kurdistan region.
The hotel will feature 200 serviced apartments and will feature a business center, health club, swimming pool, eight meeting rooms, two restaurants and a lobby lounge and bar. The hotel is located in the city’s center.
“Erbil’s commercial status is increasing year on year and the city has a growing reputation as an up-and-coming tourist destination. We have every confidence that DoubleTree Suites by Hilton Erbil will prove popular with a growing number of business and leisure travelers,” said Rudi Jagersbacher, area president of Middle East & Africa, Hilton Worldwide.
