Golden State Foods said it is in negotiations to sell one-third of its 27 distribution centers to Martin Brower Co. for an undisclosed price in a deal that is expected to close before the end of the year.
The nine centers involved primarily serve McDonald’s Corp., said Golden State, an Irvine, Calif.-based food processor and distributor. The sale would support strategies for growth, efficiencies and customer service goals, Golden State said.
Golden State has been a food supplier to McDonald’s for more than 65 years and a distribution partner for more than 50 years, a relationship that will continue, the company said in a news release. The deal is expected to accelerate Golden State’s reinvestment and acquisition strategies, it added.
Martin Brower is a Rosemont, Ill.-based food distributor that operates more than 60 centers in 19 countries and first established a distribution relationship with McDonald’s in 1956, according to its website.
Golden State is a supplier to a number of foodservice companies and food retailers, serving more than 125,000 stores in 60 countries. Core businesses include protein, produce, dairy and liquid products, as well as logistics services.
